Earlier this month, The Postal Service re-issued their era-defining record, ‘Give Up’, to coincide with the record’s 10th year anniversary. In addition to the original album, the reissue includes several remixes, an Iron & Wine cover of Postal Service’s hit ‘Such Great Heights’, and two new singles. The two new tracks generating internet buzz are ‘Turn Around’ and ‘A Tattered Line Of String’.
I’ve chosen to feature ‘A Tattered Line Of String’ for its bubbly fast-paced beat and the down to earth story-telling lyric structure Ben Gibbard is famous for. He made a career of it with Death Cab For Cutie, and though The Postal Service was initially intended as a side-project, there are some stylistic crossovers between the two bands. ’String’ tells a story of spontaneity and the circumstances that allow for it in the first place.
